Comprehensive Health and Housing
We have a dedicated team of health and human services professionals working in Plumas County. External and internal challenges in key county departments have created a situation where employees are overworked and overwhelmed. I will work to prioritize competitive wages and benefits while also creating a county culture of excellence to attract and retain the health and human services employees who feel valued and get the training and support they need to do their jobs effectively.
Serving as faculty to county associations teaching government finance and budgeting to county leaders, I know that Plumas County is not optimizing use of state and federal dollars intended to support health and human services. I will use my expertise to make sure the needs of our community are met, and funding intended to improve our communities does not go unspent, or worse yet, returned, because of our bureaucratic inertia. We need to support a safe and healthy community that nurtures body and mind across all ages and social conditions. We must collaborate with community, education, faith and other sectors to assure our entire community is supported through integrated health care and social services.
At the root of the housing crisis are lack of adequate housing supply, too few opportunities for adequate incomes, and barriers to accessing integrated care across the mental health, substance use disorder and health care services. We need to provide adequate oversight to make sure we take advantage of funding opportunities to address these problems, assuring funds are being spent appropriately where they will have a maximum impact. Furthermore, aligning efforts and resources with key partners who have a shared mission and serve the same populations will go a long way in eliminating duplication and more effectively serving our community.
