Public Safety
I will work actively towards fully funding and staffing our Sheriff’s Office, with the goal of competitive compensation and benefit packages that attract the best and the brightest in the profession to serve our communities. Even with the recent one-time 20% wage increase, after over a decade of stagnant pay, Plumas County Sheriff's Office cannot compete with other counties, much less employers outside of the public safety sector.
We often lose Sheriffs Office employees who have gained job experience here to other employers. To retain valuable staff, we need to work towards better compensation, which will support a fully staffed workforce, safer working conditions, predictable schedules, and ultimately, service levels that ensure a safer community.
Saying public safety is important is one thing. Taking action is another. A good starting point for action that I will push for is timely, meaningful and productive negotiations with the Sheriff's Office labor units. As Supervisor, I will work with the Sheriff's Office and District Attorney to make sure they have the staffing and the tools needed to keep to protect the public and ensure our safety, as well as their own.
